If you and your partner are looking to plan a baecation in South Africa be sure to read this post. I’ll go over amazing restaurants, great accommodations, and Instagram-worthy places in South Africa.
Affordable romantic getaways in South Africa
Planning a vacation isn’t always cheap. When it comes to vacations you have to book somewhere to stay, find somewhere to eat, and plan fun things to do. All of this can add up quickly! To help you save money, I have gathered some accommodations, restaurants, and fun activities that are all at a reasonable price.
Which Place is the Best for Couples?
Finding the best place to stay is no easy-task. It’s important to do your research and find a place that has all the amenities you’re looking for without hurting your wallet.
Garden Court Umhlanga
The Garden Court Umhlanga is very affordable with rooms starting at the low 100s a night. They offer all of the amenities that you can ask for with free wifi, air conditioning, free private lounge, and their own gym!
Garden Court Uhlanga’s best feature is that they’re only a 5 minute drive to the beach. If you’re in the mood for shopping, the hotel is only a 4 minute walk from the Gateway Theatre of Shopping. Sometimes you just want to relax on the resort and they’ve got you covered. You can check out their heated pools for a relaxing day in the sun!
Cabanas at Sun City
The Cabanas Hotel at Sun City resort is a great option for you and your partner starting around the mid 100s a night. This is a beautiful resort right on the Sun City Waterworld Lake with 24 rooms that face the lake. The resort sells itself by being a few minutes away from the lakeside beach where they offer activities like jet skiing, water skiing, and parasailing.
They also offer a large outdoor pool and their Cabanas Pool Deck where you can get cocktails, snacks, and lunch. Other amenities include free wifi, shuttle bus service, and daily housekeeping.
Aha Casa do Sol
Aha Casa do Sol Hotel and Resort is your go-to option for an affordable stay without having to sacrifice any amenities. At aha Casa do Sol, you can expect spotless pools, beautiful gardens and shaded glades. This is a beautiful place if you’re looking to relax and have some peace of mind. Nights here are the best price out of the three with prices starting in the high 90s per night!
This is the perfect resort if you’re looking to explore what the area has to offer. They’re located within the Ilanga Nature and Game Reserve where you can see over 100 different species. You can visit Kruger’s Park’s Phabeni Gate for quad biking, ziplining, and hot air ballooning, all of its only 15 minutes away from the resort.
What is the Best Meal in South Africa?
What’s a vacation without trying the local cuisine? In this list, I made sure to include a variety of restaurants that are close to each of the resorts.
Butcher Boys Grill
This restaurant is located in Durban which is roughly a 19 minute ride from Garden Umhlanga. Here their specialty is their meats, and I would highly recommend getting a steak. You can either pick a dry-age or a wet-age steak with the size ranging from 200 grams to 1 kilogramme if you’re really hungry!
If you’re in the mood for a drink be sure to check out their drink menu! They have all of the classics like cosmopolitans, daiquiris, and margaritas. However, where they really stand out is their specialty drinks. I’d recommend having a blushing mimosa or an island fish bowl.
Impulse by the Sea
A lot of people don’t know that Indian cuisine has been a staple in South African culture ever since the beginning of the 19th century. There’s no better restaurant to experience South African Indian cuisine than Impulse by the Sea.
Impulse by the Sea is a top choice for you and your partner as it's right on the beach. They’re notorious for their delicious curries. Their popular dishes are their lamb curry and prawn curry. Be careful, they may be spicy!
Tanks Bush Pub
If you’re staying at aha Casa do Sol and want to try South Africa pub food, head over to Tanks Bush Pub in Kiepersol. They have all of your favourite pub food from burgers to fish and chips and everything in between. All of their food served with an army twist!
The best thing about the Tanks Bush Pub is where it's located. Tanks Bush Pub provides that local South African feel with it huddled in a macadamia orchard with mango trees around it.
Who doesn’t love coffee? If you’re in the mood for some South African coffee be sure to stop at Shiloh Coffee especially if you’re staying at aha Casa do Sol as they’re also located in Kiepersol.
The best part about Shiloh Coffee is that you can take a tour and see how their coffee is grown and made since they’re located on a coffee farm. If you happen to get hungry be sure to have their cakes! It’s the best in the country.
Where do Tourists go in South Africa?
Here’s a list of fun things to do around South Africa. Each place is close to the restaurants and resorts above.
Umhlanga Rocks Beach
This is the main beach and the most popular one in Umhlanga. Off the coast of the Indian Ocean it has perfect conditions for swimming and surfing. You can also enjoy the large rocks and the small pools of water.
Valley of Waves
If you end up staying at Sun City and you’re an adrenaline junky, you have to check out Valley of Waves. This man-made water park is rated as one of the best water parks in the world!
Bagdad Farmers Market
Bagdad Farmers Market is the perfect place to experience South African culture. Here you can try local fruits and vegetables, duck eggs, and craft beers. It’s an experience like nothing else.
